Apologies for the long delay between blogs for this trip and leaving everyone in suspense but sadly health needs must take precedence. In 6 years of blogging, I have never gone than 48 hours in writing up a day, so this is a first.
Karen hardly any sleep again overnight and spent most of the time sitting in the most peculiar positions in the lounge area trying to get comfortable. She was not unsurprisingly tired and grumpy on top of the agony she was feeling. She was also feeling very anxious about the flight home. More than once she said that she just wanted to be home and that this trip had just not been worth the aggravation.
My knee and foot were still sore yet rather than resting I had to be the one having to fetch and carry everything. Still, it was another beautiful day when the sun came up without any clouds in the sky
Another issue then appeared when Karen thought she found a bed bug in the bedroom which sent her into another frenzy. Could this trip throw up anymore challenge?
This morning I needed to try and find Karen some compression stockings for the flight and to go the Apple shop in the nearby Galleria to get the planned present for Karen’s upcoming birthday. Rather than just sitting in the car Karen decided to stay in the room although I felt that a change of scenery might help her.
So, I drove the 2 miles to the Galleria. The car park underneath was empty and after parking I went up the escalator which pleasingly took me to very close to the Apple Shop which was also empty, and I was in and out within 5 minutes.
Then I drove back to the pharmacy in the Target near the motel to get compression stockings which I found they don’t stock. Rather than go back empty handed I thought I would take a Starbucks back. I was queueing ages which really did not help my foot as it seemed to be training day for new Starbucks staff. The one who eventually took my order for Karen I predict will not see the week out.
Karen was pleased with her coffee, and I then made some ham rolls for lunch which we ate in the sunshine in the courtyard.
I then persuaded Karen to drive with me for a couple of miles to sit on the edge of the beach for a hour. It may have only been a few steps out of the car but it was painful for her, but she felt much better for doing so. On the way back I stopped in a Walgreens trying to get the compression stockings again but failed again. I was directed to a larger store which I drove to. This time I had success but at a cost of $30 and managed to get Karen a foldable walking stick as she was struggling with the walking pole. All the costs were starting to mount up, but it was a case of needs really must. The walking stick seemed to help her a bit.
We sat outside again in the courtyard trying to remember we were on a holiday and not acting out a bad dream, however the thoughts of tomorrows flight was now hanging over both of us. I was just hoping that overnight there would be some real improvement for Karen. I was fretting more about the logistics than I was letting onto her.
For our last dinner tonight Karen was determined we would make it to an Outback. In the end we both agreed that that really would be too much for her, so we settled upon getting a takeaway from there instead which I ordered online. Karen came with me to collect which seemed to be further away than I thought. The problem is the number of traffic lights in Fort Lauderdale which take ages to change and so makes it ages to get anywhere relatively close.
The food we ate back in the room was excellent and we both enjoyed it. We started our packing before watching some Shark Tank for hopefully the last time for a while before heading to bed.
